There are various types of Buddhist statues.Buddhist statues can be classified into four main categories.

1 Nyorai (Nyorai category has the highest rank)

Modeled after Buddha having reached Enlightenment.

Nyorai statues generally wear no accessories, only a thin vesture and rahotsu, i.e., a distinctive, curled hair.

 

These are the ones that have attained enlightenment. The most famous nyorai is Shaka Nyorai,the founder of Buddhism - Amida Nyorai ,who leads people to the Pure Land -Yakushi Nyorai , who can heal the sick *Different nyorai statues are used by different sects

2 Bosatsu (Bodhisattva)

Bosatsu is a Buddha who saves people with mercy, itself seeking Enlightenment to become a Nyorai.

 

These are the ones who are working towards attaining enlightenment.

The most common bosatsu is Kannon Bosatsu,who has a warm smile and offers help to people with problems.

3 Myo-o

Myo-o is a Nyorai turning itself into the state of wrath, with the view of bringing to their knees those who do not listen to it in its usual appearance.

Angry face teaches people to show mercy.

 

Myo-o are deities who punish those ignoring Buddha's teaching.

4Tembu (Deva)

Guardian deities of Buddhism, collectively referring to those who live in

Heaven.

 

It meant deities living in the celestial sphere in Indian classical myth, later becoming guardian deities when the concept was incorporated into Buddhism.
